**Providence is calling a Patient Registrar Hospital Customer Service (0.0 FTE, Rotating/Variable) to Providence Medford Medical Center in Medford, OR. This position is on-call and requires availability for a minimum of 8 shifts per month/after the first 3 weeks of full-time training.**

We are seeking a Patient Registrar Hospital Customer Service that will be the member of a team whose purpose is to provide Providence Health System with superior service in performing multiple functions. General responsibilities are registering patients, obtaining appropriate demographics, insurance and medical information. In addition, will be responsible for operating the hospital telephone and paging system.

**In This Position You Will Have The Following Responsibilities**

* Demonstrate initiative in acquiring and upgrading knowledge and skills:

* Maintain knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, VA, Third-Party Payer and Managed Care contract requirements for payment related to benefits/coverage, eligibility, authorization, deductible, co-pay and notification

* Provide quality customer service:

* Greet patients promptly, courteously, and professionally 98% of the time as observed by the Director

* Ensure that patients are accurately registered:

* Patient Information:

* Assign medical record number using correct search procedure

* Screen admission to determine appropriate admission type

* Pre-register or register patients capturing pertinent data such as complete demographic, insurance, employer, accident and clinical information

* Accurately enters data into the system

* Perform other registration-related duties such as discharges, bed transfers, patient-type transfers, dispositions, etc.

* Must maintain 95% and above accuracy based on a random sample of verified registrations

* Direct patient contact:

* Obtain appropriate signatures on consents and releases including Advance Directive

* Serve patient rights

* Collect patients valuables, and places them in the safe

* Perform operator duties effectively:

* Acknowledge all calls promptly

* Page the requested parties accurately, in a clear, audible voice

* Security:

* Respond promptly to alarm signals, in accordance with departmental and hospital procedures

* Notify the appropriate authorities

* Respond promptly to Emergency Codes such as disaster, trauma, fire, etc. in accordance with departmental and hospital procedures

* Inform the appropriate parties of pertinent patient information:

* Demonstrate positive interaction with the public, 98% of the time as observed by the Director:

* Communicate effectively with physicians, physicians office workers and all hospital department employees

* Maintain positive interpersonal relations with co-workers, so that productivity is maximized

* Maintain and distribute faxes, physician orders, medical records, surgery schedules, reports, etc., in accordance with departmental procedures

* Notify the appropriate department or nurses station, of patients arrival:

* Escort patients, if necessary, to the service area

* Collect co-pays, deductibles, and/or co-insurance, and gives the patient a receipt

* Demonstrate the ability to organize and handle multiple, often changing tasks and priorities

**Qualifications**

**Required qualifications for this position includes:**

* High School Diploma -OR- GED

**Preferred Qualifications For This Position Includes**

* One (1) year experience in customer service or healthcare registration

* Satisfactory completion of college level Medical Terminology or Medical Assistant course

* National Certification of CHAA

* Registrar and third party payor experience

* Healthcare experience, in either a provider or payor site
