** Custodian (Evening Shift)**

Under the general supervision of the Building Services Manager, the custodian provides and maintains the cleanliness (with the daily use of chemicals in accordance to standard practices) of his or her assigned building(s) and to areas as directed by his or herManager. The custodian will provide service with a pleasant disposition and neat appearance.

Evening shift hours have the earliest start time of 2 p.m. with the latest end time of 12 a.m. The hours may vary, with the necessity of occasional overtime to support University sponsored events which may occur after working hours and/or on weekends.

**Education and Work Experience:**

* High School Diploma or GED

* Minimum of 1 year experience in cleaning services or related type work.

**Skill Requirements:**

* Ability to read, write and follow oral and written instructions

**Essential Function:** Use PPE and tools such as goggles, dust masks, brooms, mops, vacuums, carpet cleaning brush, squeegee, cleaning cloths, sponges, pails, etc. to complete the following tasks:

Daily:

* Sweep or dust mop, and mop all hard surfaces, moving entrance mats, plants or other objects

* Vacuum all carpet areas, including entrance mats, moving plants, trash cans, or other light objects to clean under and behind them

* Sweep and mop stairwells

* Use proper lifting technique to

+ Empty all trash cans, clean receptacles, and replace the liner, before removing trash from building to nearest dumpster

+ Straighten lobby, lounge, and prayer room furniture

+ Move furniture and vacuum underneath

+ Lift up to 40 pounds

+ Re-bag trash and make additional trips to dumpster if too heavy, or over the 40 pound maximum

* Use proper chemicals and equipment to:

+ Clean restrooms and shower rooms, refilling all towel, tissue, sanitary napkin, seat cover, and soap dispensers

+ Clean door glass, white boards, chalk boards, display cases, interior partitions, and light fixtures where reachable from the floor

+ Clean all interior window and window sills where reachable from the floor

+ Clean light fixtures

+ Clean courtesy phones

+ Dust stairwell railings and ledges

+ Remove scuff marks, dirt, and spider webs from all walls and surfaces

+ Remove gum from furniture, floors and walls

+ Clean porches

Weekly:

* Use the proper chemical and equipment to:

* Clean upholstery on furniture in lobbies, lounges, prayer rooms

* Clean behind washers and dryers in laundry rooms

* Clean and polish door jams, door facings, thresholds, kick plates, door knobs, push plates, and handrails

* Clean vents

* Remove bugs from light fixtures

* Clean the tops of vending machines

* Clean baseboards

* Clean pictures, plaques, fire extinguishers, fire pull stations, and grip strips on wall

* Deep clean bathroom

* Clean blinds

Other:

* Prepares for and maintains cleanliness throughout campus events, providing services outside the scope of their regularly scheduled duties and work hours

* Maintain an adequate supply of equipment, supplies, and chemicals in custodial closet to complete job function

* Supply closets must remain locked at all times when the custodian is not in the immediate vicinity

* The custodian is responsible for the safety and security of keys in his or her possession and must keep them on his or her person while on duty, and in safekeeping when off duty. Loss of keys will result in termination

* Report all repairs, and safety and fire hazards to immediate supervisor

* Turn in found articles in accordance with University policy

**Physical Requirements:**

* Sitting 5%

* Walking/Bending/Twisting/Pushing/Pulling 60%

* Standing 10%

* Squatting 5%

* Crawling 5%

* Reaching Above/Below Shoulder Level 15%

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to stand, walk, stoop, reach, bend, kneel, twist, reach above head, turn head from side to side, climb up to 4 flights of stairs at one time, bend and extend both elbows, use both hands simultaneously. Must be able to complete each of these individually, simultaneously with other movements, and repeatedly throughout the work day.

**Environmental Conditions:**

* Outside 5%

* Inside 95%

Work is completed in climate-controlled buildings. Slips and falls may occur when walking into the building from wet surfaces. Balance is necessary to traverse stairwells and climb ladders.
