Synapse Engineer – Threat Intelligence

Description:
You'll be part of the Threat Intelligence team within Security Operations — Coinbase's first line of defense against global cyber threats.
Your focus: building and enhancing Vertex Synapse, a critical threat intelligence platform, used to:
- Detect and mitigate cyber threats
- Enrich and tag Indicators of Compromise (IoCs)
- Automate data handling for threat analysis
This is a highly technical engineering role with real-world security impact.
What You'll Do:
- Develop tools, enrichments, and automations within Vertex Synapse
- Translate security team needs into Synapse-powered solutions
- Enhance how IoCs and threat data are collected, tagged, enriched, and stored
- Build integrations and pipelines for internal and external threat intelligence feeds
- Rapidly prototype features to respond to emerging threats
- Collaborate closely with threat analysts, detection engineers, and security ops
What They're Looking For:
Must-Have Skills:
- 3+ years of experience working with Vertex Synapse
- Strong engineering background (Python likely most relevant)
- Experience developing security tools, enrichments, or automation
- Familiarity with security telemetry, tagging, and data enrichment pipelines
- Analytical thinker with a security mindset
- Effective collaborator and communicator across cross-functional teams
Nice to Have / Implicit Plus Points:
- Experience in threat detection and/or SOC tooling
- Understanding of threat intelligence lifecycle (collection, processing, analysis)
- Familiarity with MITRE ATT&CK, threat modeling, or intelligence sharing (e.g., STIX/TAXII)
- Ability to rapidly iterate on prototypes based on changing threat conditions
Compensation Overview:
