The Senior Sterile Processing Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the cleanliness, sterilization, and availability of surgical instruments and medical equipment. The role requires adherence to infection control standards, precise attention to detail, and compliance with regulatory requirements to support safe and effective patient care in a healthcare setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform decontamination, assembly, inspection, and sterilization of surgical instruments and medical devices.
- Maintain accurate inventory, tracking, and documentation of all sterilized equipment.
- Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and serviceability before distribution.
- Operate and maintain sterilizers, washers, and other department equipment according to manufacturer guidelines.
- Ensure adherence to all infection prevention and control standards.
- Collaborate with surgical and nursing teams to ensure timely delivery of instruments and supplies.
- Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
- Maintain compliance with all hospital, state, and federal sterilization standards and policies.
- Train and mentor new sterile processing staff as needed.
Required Qualifications: - Certification (must have one of the following upon hire):
- National Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA), OR
- National Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) - Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD), OR
- National Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA).
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of recent sterile processing experience.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in the use of personal computers and basic software applications (MS Office, inventory systems, etc.).
- Education: Bachelor's degree required.
- Other Requirements: Must maintain active certification and compliance with continuing education requirements.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience in a hospital or large healthcare facility setting.
- Advanced knowledge of sterilization techniques and infection control protocols.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Work Conditions: - Onsite position requiring regular handling of sterile and non-sterile equipment.
- Requires adherence to all PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and safety protocols.
- May involve lifting, standing for extended periods, and working variable shifts.
