About the Role


A global technology provider in semiconductor process control is seeking a motivated and technically strong Field Service Engineer to support advanced metrology and inspection systems. With a broad portfolio spanning everything from nanoscale measurement to advanced packaging inspection, this organisation plays a critical role across the semiconductor manufacturing lifecycle.


In this position, you'll be based in Portland, OR, acting as the key technical interface between customers and the factory. The role is hands-on, customer-facing, and focused on supporting cutting-edge measurement, inspection, and automation tools used in high-volume semiconductor production.



Key Responsibilities


  • Perform on-site installation, upgrades, calibration, maintenance, and repairs of metrology and inspection equipment in line with service agreements and quality standards.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and software-related issues, independently or in collaboration with internal engineering teams.
  • Handle escalations and support critical customer situations with a calm, solutions-oriented approach.
  • Serve as the main communication link between customers and the factory, supporting performance data collection, reliability analysis, and customer satisfaction tracking.
  • Create clear and detailed Field Service Reports documenting system performance, actions taken, and installation updates.
  • Provide structured feedback to engineering teams on reliability, serviceability, and installation trends to support future product improvements.
  • Support beta tools and early-stage programs at customer sites and internal engineering locations.
  • Deliver remote technical support as required and participate in on-call rotations.


Qualifications/ Education


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline
  • or
  • Associate degree / technical certification with 5+ years of relevant semiconductor field service experience


Technical Skills


  • Proven experience in troubleshooting complex equipment in semiconductor, high-tech manufacturing, or similar environments.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor processes and/or metrology and inspection tools.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical fundamentals; electronics experience is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of cleanroom safety practices, ergonomics, and yield-driven manufacturing.
  • Basic software and system-level troubleshooting capability.



Travel Requirements


  • Willingness to travel up to 30%, both domestically and internationally


Compensation & Benefits


  • Base Salary $75,000 – $110,000, depending on experience, location, and qualifications.
