Purchases, receive, and stores parts, supplies, and materials for the Public Works Department; performs data input into inventory, purchasing, cost accounting, and fleet management systems; does related work as required. An employee in this class is responsible for purchasing, receiving, and storing supplies in the warehouse and maintaining inventory and records of supplies received.
Research most cost-effective means for obtaining parts, supplies, and materials; confers with suppliers, vendors, and Purchasing/Warehouse Coordinator regarding departmental purchases.
Utilizing Purchase Orders or assigned Purchase Card, orders parts, supplies, and materials and establishes new vendor accounts as needed.
Receives, unpacks, and inspects parts, supplies, and materials for quality and quantity.
Reconciles incoming parts, supplies, and materials against invoices and purchase orders; daily reconciles fuel and oil usage.
Distributes all parts, supplies, and materials to personnel and destinations as needed.
Maintains records of supplies received, stored, and issued.
Daily data input into a vehicle management accounting system); including parts usage, repair orders, purchase orders, vehicle information, and other related data as needed.
Answers incoming radio and phone calls and relays messages to proper personnel.
Provides secondary labels for hazardous materials and maintains Safety Data Sheets on the department's hazardous materials.
Maintains registrations and titles for county vehicles and equipment.
Transports county vehicles, parts, and supplies to various locations; shuttles Mechanics to and from the field as needed.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three years' experience in purchasing, ordering, working with stock or in an automotive and heavy equipment parts environment; or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the described duties.
In-depth knowledge of automotive and heavy equipment parts and sources of supply; computerized ordering systems and inventory recordkeeping and control methods; and knowledge of transportation agencies and shipping rates.
Considerable knowledge of purchasing methods and procedures and warehouse methods and procedures.
Possession of or ability to obtain valid Oregon Driver License, safe driving record.
