Why this job matters

The primary function of this position is to promote a safe and secure environment for Ko-Kwel Casino Resort, its guests, and employees. This position also observes and ensures that overall operations conform to casino policy. This position is responsible for the overall performance of security personnel in Medford. This person must demonstrate and possess management, leadership skills and sound judgment. This person must be a team player and must possess the attitude needed to set the example for subordinates. This person must be confident enough in their own abilities to train the security team.
What you bring to the table

  • Make sure the space stays safe, clean, and friendly for both guests and the rest of the team; speak up and report any safety concerns to the Safety Committee.
  • Ensure guest and employee escorts to and from the casino when requested.
  • Ensure escorts for large sums of money and chips in the casino.
  • Provide security assessment and guidance on all organizational levels.
  • Assist and administer in the development and compliance of casino operational policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance of casino policy and report policy infractions to the Director of Security.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment in handling both routine and non-routine situations.
  • Ensure that regular training is conducted for both experienced and new Security Personnel.
  • Ensure that security is providing patrols of all casino property.
  • Ensure machine and table drops completed timely and efficiently.
  • Do not allow unauthorized persons on casino property (i.e., restricted or overly intoxicated persons).
  • Do not allow minors on the gaming floor.
  • Assist with altercations when necessary.
  • Assist with departmental budget concerns.
  • Communicate with various levels of management in overseeing security of the entire operation.
  • In the absence of the Director of Security may be delegated to assume the duties of this position.
  • Ensure observed or reported suspicious activity and or drug use is appropriately handled and documented.
  • Observe and use proper chain of command in handling functions of the job; maintain confidentiality.
  • Review and approve security reports delivering approved reports to record keeper.
  • Respond and/or assist with medical emergencies.
  • Ensure daily activity reports and head counts are completed correctly.
  • Conduct or monitor operational departmental duties.
  • Assist in the training and development of Tribal Member employees following the Mill Casino's Tribal Member Preference Policies.
  • Monitor shift overtime in a cost conscious and effective manner.
  • Openly participate in solving property issues while working effectively with all property managers
  • Accept responsibility and provide guidance for the entire security department as a departmental leader.
  • Attend any necessary training to further work-related experience.
  • Jump in where needed to support the team and keep things running smoothly. (Other duties as assigned)

Ability to work weekends, holidays and evening hours as business demands. While performing duties of this position, employee is required to sit occasionally, stand for extended periods, walk frequently, lift 40 pounds, and use hands to; finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls with periods of occasional repetitive motion. Ability to manage stress appropriately, make decisions under pressure, manage anger, fear, hostility and violence of others appropriately. The casino work environment may expose you to second hand smoke on a regular basis.

  • Friendly and approachable attitude that helps guests (and the team) feel welcome and cared for every day.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must have a current valid Oregon Driver's License.
  • Minimum of three years of experience as a Security Officer II or Assistant Shift Manager, with a performance rating of "meets" or "exceeds expectations" or equivalent outside experience.
  • Completed Defensive Tactics Training course and received certification.
  • Must maintain OLCC certification.
  • Must maintain CPR and First Aid certification.
  • EMR certification required.
  • Candidates with a background in customer service or previous experience in the hospitality industry desired.
  • The ability to speak effectively and persuasively to a diverse customer and employee base and follow verbal instructions.
  • Strong written communication and observation skills with the ability to write reports and correspondence.
  • The ability to read and comprehend documents such as safety rules, policies and procedures and instructions.
  • Must be able to pass a physical with a doctor prior following job offer.
  • Computer skills must include Microsoft Word, Office, and Windows applications and also ability to learn I-Trak database.
  • Must pass and remain in compliance with background check and drug free workplace policies.
  • Ability to travel as needed to support other locations.
  • Comfortable communicating clearly and positively with both guests and teammates.
