Description:

Caring. Connecting. Growing Together.

At UnitedHealthcare, we're simplifying the health care experience, creating healthier communities and removing barriers to quality care. The work you do here impacts the lives of millions of people for the better. Come build the health care system oftomorrow, making it more responsive, affordable and optimized.

Role Overview

The experience of managing data in healthcare is complex and fragmented, creating significant challenges for delivering consistent and personalized AI experiences. Today, healthcare faces a landscape of disconnected data sources - spreadsheets, inboxes, contracts, and legacy systems - each performing distinct functions without integration. This fragmentation undermines AI effectiveness, increases risk, and limits our ability to deliver contextual, compliant, and persona-driven interactions.

At UHG, enterprise data coordination is essential for powering AI-driven experiences that serve the enterprise personas - members, advocates, and brokers - diverse business needs. By unifying and standardizing data across UHC and Optum, UHG-level coordination enables seamless, scalable, and compliant AI solutions that deliver contextualized support and insights. This means members can more easily access care, coordinate benefits, and receive personalized guidance, while advocates and brokers are equipped with timely, accurate information to resolve issues and deliver high-quality service.

Optum, as a leading health services and innovation company within UnitedHealth Group, provides a broad range of solutions including pharmacy care services, data analytics, population health management, and clinical expertise. UHG-level data coordination ensures that Optum's business units - such as Optum Health, Optum Insight, and Optum Rx - can leverage integrated, trusted data to optimize operations, support care coordination, drive cost efficiency, and deliver actionable intelligence to providers, payers, and employers. This collaborative approach not only enhances the experience for UHC personas but also empowers Optum to deliver innovative, data-driven solutions that improve health outcomes and operational performance across the healthcare ecosystem.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • UHC & Optum Data Coordination & Enablement: Catalogue, maintain, and automate ground-truth data sources that power UHG-level AI skills; establish clear ownership, refresh cadences, lineage, and access controls for data spanning both organizations
  • Interoperability & Standards: Standardize data definitions, metrics, schemas, and APIs across UHC and Optum teams to ensure consistency and seamless experiences for all users
  • Operational Execution: Implement the unified data roadmap set by the Senior Director; sequence work, remove blockers, and manage intake/backlog for data requests tied to UHG-level AI skills
  • Quality & Compliance: Monitor data quality, integrity, and compliance; embed responsible AI practices and governance checkpoints in development and UAT; partner with Risk/Compliance on controls
  • Cross-Functional Liaison: Facilitate alignment among product owners, data owners, engineering leads, and AI Delivery across UHC and Optum; lead recurring forums to surface dependencies and resolve data issues quickly
  • Real-Time Enablement: Integrate data across SaaS tools, CRMs, sales platforms, and workforce management systems to provide teams with real-time, actionable insights that support member, advocate, broker, and companion needs
  • Observability & Measurement: Define instrumentation requirements for data pipelines and AI skills; report on SLAs, freshness, accuracy, coverage, and usage of data; drive root-cause analysis for incidents impacting users
  • Content Mapping: Coordinate persona-driven data strategies focused on members, advocates, brokers, and companions, ensuring terminology, tone, and compliance guidelines are applied consistently across relevant skills
  • Documentation & Playbooks: Maintain source-of-truth documentation (catalogs, dictionaries, flow diagrams) for data and contribute to data enablement playbooks and onboarding guides
  • Continuous Improvement: Use analytics, feedback, and incident post-mortems to identify data gaps and prioritize remediation; propose optimizations that improve reliability and reduce cost for UHG-level solutions
  • Vendor & Platform Coordination: Partner with platform teams and vendors to align integrations, SLAs, and change management impacting data used by AI skills
Measures of Success:
  • Delivery of a unified, scalable data ecosystem powering UHG-level AI experiences

  • Improved experience KPIs (e.g., NPS, resolution rates) attributable to better data enablement
  • Achievement of interoperability and personalization goals across journeys
  • Enhanced real-time support capabilities for front-line workers serving our 50 million members
Competencies & Best Practices
  • Operational Discipline: Plans, sequences, and executes with rigor; maintains high-quality data documentation
  • Systems Thinking: Understands how data flows across platforms and how changes propagate to relevant skills and experiences
  • Collaboration & Influence: Builds alignment across diverse stakeholders without direct authority, always advocating for UHG-level needs
  • Analytical Problem-Solving: Uses data to diagnose issues and drive evidence-based decisions
  • Adaptability: Thrives amid ambiguity and evolving priorities; comfortable with change management
  • United Culture Orientation: Models a cooperative approach and shared success across teams, with a focus on enterprise outcomes
