ResponsibilitiesPerform maintenance on general powerhouse mechanical equipment.Conduct periodic and unscheduled maintenance and/or repair on equipment common to hydroelectric facilities such as turbines, generators, governors, spillway and intake hoist equipment, pneumatic devices, HVAC equipment.Perform machine work including shaping, turning, boring, grinding, milling, layout and assembly of finished pieces into a final product.Perform various types of welding (oxygen‑acetylene, Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding), cutting (oxygen‑acetylene, oxygen‑propane, carbon arc, plasma), brazing and soldering operations.Perform other support duties such as installing and repairing piping systems.RequirementsAppointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.This position requires the completion of a pre‑employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.Must be able to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.Must possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.Must wear appropriate safety equipment and protective clothing, and successfully complete and maintain all occupational health requirements.QualificationsWho May Apply: U.S. CitizensExperience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations. Ability to operate machine tools and equipment necessary to produce products within tolerances; perform general machinery repair, dismantling, assembling, and installing main and auxiliary machinery or hydraulic equipment. Must work under close supervision to ensure tasks are properly performed. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.Physical EffortThe incumbent must have physical endurance to work for prolonged periods in cramped, poorly accessible sites when repairing or servicing installed equipment. Physical effort requires prolonged standing, walking, climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, twisting, and lifting and carrying objects frequently weighing up to, and occasionally over, 45 pounds. Machinist work requires acute dexterity.Working ConditionsWork is performed in the machine shop, in the powerhouse, and other project structures and outdoors. The employee is exposed to noise, heights, oils, greases, confined areas, dust, dirt, water, heat or cold, odors, fumes, and moving and energized equipment.
