The Plant Engineer I at Shady Cove School ensures that the building and grounds are maintained to high standards of safety, cleanliness, and functionality. The role includes performing daily building maintenance and custodial duties, operating equipment, preparing the building for daily use, and assisting school staff as needed. Responsibilities also include maintaining inventory, setting up for school events, and complying with safety regulations related to waste, chemicals, and building systems. This position requires attention to detail, physical stamina, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. The engineer must be able to respond effectively to the needs of students and staff, support extracurricular activities, and uphold the district's mission and policies at all times.
The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, previous experience in building and grounds maintenance (preferably in a school setting), and general knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and custodial operations. Candidates must possess a valid Oregon Driver's License and provide their own transportation. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential, along with the ability to read instructions, maintain accurate records, and respond positively to change and supervision. This position requires physical activity including stooping, bending, climbing ladders, lifting and carrying objects, and working in indoor and outdoor environments year-round. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong work ethic, reliability, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for students, staff, and the public.
Salary Range: $19.47 - $27.70 per hour. Position will begin July 1, 2026, with screening to begin asap.
