About Us: Temple Emek Shalom is a vibrant and welcoming community committed to fostering spiritual growth, communal connections, and lifelong learning. We are seeking a dedicated Temple Administrator to join our team and help manage the day-to-day operations of our Temple.  We are largely a volunteer-driven organization that strives for participation and embraces consensual decision-making processes.

Position Overview: The Temple Administrator is a newly configured evolving position.  It is a key role responsible for overseeing a variety of functions that support the smooth operation of our Temple. This position involves managing congregational communications, overseeing building use, supporting membership and fundraising, and running special events. The ideal candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team and consistently strives to infuse the values of TES in all interactions.

About You:  Applicants should possess enough knowledge of Jewish ritual practices, customs, holidays, and history to direct synagogue activities and function effectively as a representative of the congregation. Prior experience with or knowledge of Reconstructionist Judaism is helpful but not mandatory. We seek candidates who are personable, diplomatic, sensitive, and responsive, able to work with a wide variety of people with diverse backgrounds and lifestyles, manage conflict positively, and handle confidential information appropriately.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Congregational Communications:

  • Weekly & Monthly Newsletters and Special Announcements: Ensure timely and accurate content for newsletters and announcements; Compose, proofread, edit, and format materials; coordinate approval of content.
  • End of Service Announcements: Review and approve announcements; make adjustments as needed.
  • Web Page/Membership Portal/Registrations: Ensure content accuracy; oversee photo updates; manage social media content and posting (delegate and approve as needed).

2. Building Use:

  • Kitchen: Coordinate and oversee proper use, maintenance, and cleanliness.
  • Events and Rentals: Develop and update event procedures and rental policies; oversee rental arrangements.

3. Membership:

  • If needed, act as a TES representative with prospective members.
  • Provide recommendations to the Membership Committee.

4. Board of Trustees:

  • Attend monthly Board meetings and provide updates as necessary.

5. Fundraising:

  • Ways and Means: Support grant writing and funding opportunities; handle grant   “thank you” letters; report to the Ways and Means committee.
  • Annual Fundraiser: With volunteers, plan and execute annual fundraising events.

6. Services/Programs:

  • Create, and update as needed, the Master Program Handbook.
  • Provide oversight for:
    • content for special announcements and flyers
    • registrations and forms
    • site setup and clean up as needed.

7. Holiday & Observance Coordination:

  • Work with the rabbi, Religious Practices Committee, and leadership in planning and coordinating holiday events and observances. 
  • Manage volunteers and logistics. 
  • Oversee and ensure public relations and that all supplies and decorations are in place.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in administration, preferably in a religious or nonprofit setting.
  • Experience and familiarity with Jewish communal life and practices.
  • Experience with fundraising, grant writing, and event production.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace; familiarity with web content management and social media platforms.
  • Ability and desire to work collaboratively with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed for special events.

Compensation: Salary range $32-$35 per hour based on experience and qualifications. Reduced tuition for TES preschool / Religious School is available if desired.
