The Rogue Valley Safe Routes to School Coordinator will play a vital role in advancing the Commute Options mission to increase access to transportation options across Oregon. The Oregon SRTS program supports students and their families, including those from diverse and marginalized backgrounds, through access and knowledge on transportation options that provide affordable, safe, efficient, and equitable ways to get to and from school. This role will involve promoting and participating in Safe Routes to School (SRTS) programming throughout the Rogue Valley, including assisting established Safe Routes to School Programs and seeking out opportunities to build new programs. 

Key responsibilities will include assisting in SRTS pedestrian and bicycle safety education and walk and roll events in schools, as well as fostering existing community partnerships and building new ones. Duties will involve traveling to job sites, including schools and various venues to help deliver education to students K-8, and collaborating with both local partners and the Oregon SRTS team.

This is a limited duration appointment that is currently funded through September 30, 2025.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & FUNCTIONS – These can be performed with or without an accommodation. 

  • Identify schools to implement SRTS program activities, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity for all community members. Prepare program documents and maintain accurate records. 
  • Ensure that implemented objectives and activities comply with grants and contract requirements. 
  • Instruct informative, engaging, and inclusive SRTS program safety education.
  • Organize and attend various events including walk and roll days, walking school bus events, bike rodeos etc. Help provide logistical support such as transporting materials to and from events, ensuring all necessary items are prepared and organized. 
  • Demonstrate a steadfast commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively mitigating bias.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Medford SRTS Coordinator (up to 10 hours per week).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must embrace the mission of Commute Options and demonstrate a commitment to promoting safe, accessible, and equitable transportation options. 
  • Competency in bike riding. 
  • Maintains professional conduct in all interactions with community members, partners, and colleagues.  
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with others, including writing and speaking. 
  • Organized with a demonstrated ability to follow through on tasks and goals, such as reporting on program outcomes. 
  • Possess the skills to work collaboratively within a diverse team environment and participate with a focus on collaboration.
  • Employment is contingent upon verification of eligibility to work in the United States as required by federal law. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated cultural competency and the ability to engage effectively with diverse cultural backgrounds. 
  • Ability to foster safe, inclusive, supportive, and collaborative environments for individuals from diverse backgrounds and abilities. Commitment to providing equitable transportation options and understanding systemic barriers to mobility.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills using trauma-informed language and practices in interactions with community members and colleagues. 
  • Demonstrated expertise and a strong commitment to apply racial equity and social justice practices in all aspects of program support. 
  • Fluency in two or more languages.
  • Experience instructing youth or teaching skills.
