This is a temporary, non benefited position. This position is open until filled.
Full-time temporary/seasonal workers needed to perform various general labor tasks for the Public Works Department. Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Position will be physical in nature and will require the ability to follow verbal and written instruction. Experience using basic maintenance tools and equipment required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Depending upon assignment, may drive utility trucks, dump trucks, and/or other vehicles; may operate a backhoe; may operate a variety of power tools such as jackhammers, compressors, cutoff saws, pavement saws, etc.; use a variety of computerized devices and computers; use and operate flagging equipment to control traffic in vicinity of work crews; perform grounds maintenance, weed/pest abatement and facilities cleaning duties, some of which require heavy manual labor.
Perform work involved with the construction, cleaning, maintenance and repair of City streets, sidewalks, storm drains and rights-of-way, including sweeping, resurfacing, pavement patching, crack sealing, concrete forming/finishing, and removing vegetation. Incumbent may work on the paint crew striping roads and applying thermoplastic.
Install, repair, and replace various street and regulatory signs, posts, and barricades.
Repair and patch curbs, gutters, storm drains, bridge decks, headwalls, sidewalks, and perform related concrete work; crack seal, patch, oil, and seal road surfaces.
Operate hand and power tools such as pumps, compactors, saws, etc.; operate various public works equipment, which may include a dump truck, street sweeper, loader, sandblaster, jack hammer, chain saw, crack sealer, lance torch, etc.
Perform inspections and collect data on a tablet computer pertaining to signs, streets, sidewalks, and storm drain systems. Inspect for and hand out notices regarding code violations for vegetation within The City right-of-way.
Perform general cleanup and minor maintenance to public works facilities; may provide general clean up for vehicle crashes and may be asked to remove dead animals on city streets/rights-of-way.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
Education: Possession of a high school diploma or GED.
License: Possession of valid Oregon Drivers License required.
License: Possession of an Oregon CDL driver's license preferred.
Previous paving experience preferred.
Previous concrete experience preferred.
Previous excavation experience preferred.

Work is performed primarily in an outdoor field environment with exposure to various weather conditions as well as exposure to noise, unpleasant odors, chemicals, and other environmental substances; incumbents may work in or around water, dirt, oil, grease, or fumes, may have to travel to and from various job sites, and may require some exposure to hazardous traffic conditions.
