About the Program

ColumbiaCare Services’ Rental Assistance Program (RAP) is designed to help high-needs individuals obtain independent housing in the community. These individuals typically face many barriers to obtaining housing and our focus is to help them to overcome those obstacles.

Position Details

We have a Full-Time opening for the Residential Specialist position at our TAY/RAP program in Jackson County, Oregon. This position works directly with clients (Veterans and Transition Aged Youth ages 17-24) by assisting them to navigate very complex systems (rental applications and requirements, HUD/alternative subsidy applications, benefits systems, public transportation, etc.) and other supportive assistance to individuals with a serious and persistent mental illness to help them maintain residence and learn the skills to become as independent as possible in the community. Residential Specialists focus on the nuts and bolts of what it takes to obtain housing, exploring community resources and ascertaining services the client may benefit from while encouraging their growth. Travel within Jackson County using a company vehicle is required.

Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8am-5pm (Day)

Residential Specialists are considered the subject matter expert on accessing resources to obtain housing as well as completion of all applications and accompanying documents and is primarily responsible for conducting the housing search, accessing community resources, coordinate transportation and assisting with moving in arrangements. They will also be involved with fund allocation for the project to ensure all payments are made to landlords or property management companies in a timely manner, as well as tracking all payments (actual payments of rent to landlords are made by in house finance department).

Successful applicants will have the skills to provide effective and professional supports which motivate individuals with serious mental illness to participate in skills training and other treatment activities; help keep individuals safe in the community; and encourage socialization, self-help, and communication. Services provided will be in accordance with individual community integration and recovery plans. This position will understand and carry out ColumbiaCare policies and procedures, and will be expected to attend staff meetings and training sessions, as scheduled. In addition, you will receive crisis de-escalation training, which requires performing various physical, hands-on maneuvers and techniques.

Qualifications

MUST be QMHA Certified through Mental Health & Addictions Certification Board of Oregon (MHACBO) -OR- MEET eligibility qualifications to register with MHACBO

State of Oregon QMHA credentials criteria:

a) Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Science: Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or Human Development;

b) OR minimum 6,000 hours verifiable mental health experience working with Severe Persistent Mental Illness population in a supervised social service setting;

c) OR equivalent combination of behavioral science education in addition to satisfactory supplemental mental health experience and training

Successful applicants MUST also have a valid Oregon driver’s license, maintain a safe driving record, and the ability to pass a DHS criminal background check.

Starting at $16.50 per hour/DOE and QMHA credentials.
